IT IS HERE! - Our 1ST full WASC Accreditation visit starts this coming Sunday afternoon, March 17th.
You will be meeting during your PLC time with your Focus Group this Monday, March 11th, to look at any last minute questions and review the four-day visit schedule of the team.
This visit will be a great time to show off all the hard work and extra hours everyone has spent in the last 3½ years to make YLHS an “outstanding high school”. It is time to show our guests the pride and dedication we all have to our students and community.
We will have an All Staff Meeting on Monday morning, March 18th in the library to introduce the visiting team of educators. We have “great people” and “great programs” and I am very proud and excited for the seven member team to see and speak with each one of you!
For your Planning – Wednesday afternoon, March 20th, after school the visiting committee will meet with our staff in the forum theater to discuss their report.
Get Ready!!! – Not only will we have our WASC Visitation Team on campus March 17 – March 20, we will also welcome the California Department of Education Distinguished School Team for a one-day visit on March 26th.
The YLHS Distinguished School Application was accepted and we will have CDE 2013 statewide nominee site validation report on Tuesday, March 26th. The one-day visitation will focus on four strategies to validate the full implementation of the signature practices in our report. The four strategies include:
1) Constituency Group interviews
2) Classroom Observations
3) Shadowing
4) Document Review
The YLHS “signature” practices included:
1) Getting Connected – i.e. Link Crew, PTSA, Clubs, CSF, NHS, Career Day, Mustang Awards, Co-curricular programs, Boosters, Rallies, Breaking Down the Walls and Every 15 Minutes to name just a few.
2) Closing the Gap – i.e. PLC’s to design curriculum and instruction for high student performance, SERVE and House programs, Specialized Math courses and Step-Up-To-Writing across the curriculum. Our 1st in PYLUSD collaborative model for special education and learning at lunch to name a few programs we opened the school with.
This is an exciting time with a little “stress” thrown in! We have guests coming th YLHS and we are proud of everything we do!!
Mustang Pride Day – March 16th – 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – Our PTSA Student Leadership group, under the direction of Janice Heckel, and many volunteer PTSA parents will be on campus Saturday to scrape, clean, pick up trash and rake planters to make YLHS shine. Everyone is welcome to stop by and help out. The more help we have the more we can get done!
Don’t Miss the YLHS Musical Production – of “Guys and Dolls” – running March 14-16, March 21-23 at 7:00 p.m. and March 16 & March 23 at 2:00 p.m. in our Forum Theater. It’s always fun to see the talent of our students!!
CHSEE Exam - The California High School Exit Exam will be held this week on Tuesday & Wednesday for all sophomores from 8-12 in the gym and Matt Stine & Valerie Steinbergs rooms.
Congratulations to our newest National Honor Society members – Last Thursday evening, the YLHS National Honor Society added 72 members that have met and exceeded the high standards in scholarship, service, character and leadership as a member of NHS. A Big Thank You to advisor, Carmen Nicholson, and all the NHS members for a terrific evening.
