Principal's Weekly Update #136

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation – has just announced the commended students for the class of 2014. YLHS is fortunate to have ten commended students. Over 1.5 million students took the 2012 PSAT last October. 16,000 were designated semi-finalists and another 34,000 were commended for their PSAT score of 203 or greater. That places these students in the top 5% of the nation. These fine students are:
Nicolette Allaway
Marina Canfield
Pan Choi
Natalie Do Carmo
Tristan Franzetti
Michael Guerrero
Seah Kim
Vivian Pham
Veronica Sardina
Madison Smith
We will be recognizing all of our National Merit Scholars at Senior Awards in the spring!

YLHS Band and Color Guard – The field show music looks and sounds terrific during our half time shows at our home games. They are also preparing for a busy season of parades and field shows across Southern
California. Good Luck to all of our performers. Thank You, Bincins!!

Did you Hear? – Roseann and our “library team” checked out 7,435 textbooks during registration and the first week of school. A Big Thank You to Roseann, for saving classroom time and keeping track of our textbooks, which saves us “$” in lost and damaged books. Great Job!!!

September 2013 has come and gone - and our first 4 weeks of 2013-14 have been terrific. Thank you to everyone for a great opening to our school year and getting our students and parents (Back to School Night) connected. There is a saying “Even a bad day of fishing – beats a good day at work.” Well – it would have to be a Great Day of fishing to even come close to the very “special” place we have here at YLHS. CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE ON A GREAT 1ST MONTH!!
