Welcome Back and Happy New Year - I hope everyone had a great two week holiday break and first week back at school. We are in the home stretch of first semester with two weeks until finals schedule, starting January 28th. (See attached schedule.)
Changes in the Office for the 2013-14 second half of school year - The following announcement has been posted on our website:
Mr. Davis, Assistant Principal Curriculum and Instruction, has been promoted to Director of Assessment and
Accountability at the district level. This is a terrific opportunity for him to work with all of our PYLUSD schools, but is a great loss for YLHS and all he has done for us over the past two years.
To facilitate this change and make the transition as seamless as possible for the second half of our 2013-14 school year, Counselor Lorri Walls will step into the position as Assistant Principal Curriculum and Instruction. Her background in working with YLHS staff and knowledge of high school curriculum will help us make sure we do not skip a beat in maintaining our instructional program for staff and students.
Kim Houg will take over the counseling responsibilities for Mrs. Wall’s caseload “A – GO”. I have had the opportunity to work with Ms. Houg at Esperanza High School. She has the experience as a high school counselor, activities director and the background to provide all the services our students 9 – 12 will need and expect for the remainder of the school year. She was a terrific asset to Esperanza and we are excited to have her join our Administrative Team.
We congratulate Mr. Davis, welcome Ms. Houg and say a “Big Thank You” to Mrs. Walls for taking on these new responsibilities.
Did you Hear? - Last Thursday evening, YLHS Administration Team, along with Culinary Arts teacher, Jenny Messick, and Pathway Committee Chair, Scott Mazurier, presented our YLHS Career Technical Education (CTE) Pathway to a packed house of incoming 8th grade parents and students. During three scheduled sessions at the Yorba Linda Community Center, our team presented an overview of YLHS’ academic and co-curricular programs with a focus on students applying for the Mustang Culinary Arts/Hospitality Management Academy. A Big Thank You to Joey Davis, Jamie Jauch, Lorri Walls, Nancy Coulter, Peyton Pike, Shea Runge, Jenny Messick, Scott Mazurier and sophomore student Katie Watts for helping with the presentation. It is very exciting to talk about all the great things happening at YLHS.
“Battle of the Sexes” – starts this week. ASB has a variety of activities and competitions planned, along with the Friday Assembly in the gym. Good luck to both sides!! This is always a fun week of competitions!
FYI – We are starting to schedule campus tours on Monday mornings at 8:30 a.m. - starting this Monday and continuing the first Monday of each month. You will see us walking the campus with incoming parents and students.
Did You See Our New “Yorba Linda High School” Home of the Mustangs banners - on our gym? A Big Thank You to Shea Runge and our YLHS ASB for the new graphics to brighten up our campus. You will all see new “Distinguished High School” and “STAMPEDE” banners on our light standards. We just get better and better every year!
