Did You Hear? – ASB won the award as “Outstanding Leadership Program” at the 2014 California Association of Student Leaders (CASL) conference. The award recognizes the commitment and outstanding efforts planning our leadership class takes in connecting students to clubs, competitions and activities.
A Big Thank You - to Government and Economics teachers, Rey Lejano, Mark Honig, Lloyd Walls and Tammy Smith for the time to talk with Seniors about upcoming graduation and senior activities. Seniors are very excited with only nine weeks of school until the June 11th graduation.
Don’t Forget – 8th Grade Round-up Night - is this Wednesday, April 9th. This is a terrific night where we fill the gym with over 800 students and parents to introduce YLHS. Starting at 6:00 p.m. our center quad will be filled with tables for co-curricular programs to talk about “getting connected”. At 6:30, all of our 8th grade
students and parents will report to the gym for a brief overview of the evening presentations and introductions. Students will stay in the gym with our leadership group while parents find their way to our counselors, Nancy Coulter, Peyton Pike and Kim Houg and their presentations on course selection, graduation requirements and planning for college.
If you are the advisor/coach/teacher of an AP program that would like a table in the quad to talk with incoming freshmen parents, see Shea Runge ASAP.

More Good News - Congratulations to our string students for two outstanding performances at the SCSBOA Band & Orchestra Festival held at our district Performing Arts Center. The String Orchestra earned “unanimous excellent” ratings and our Sinfonia Orchestra earned “unanimous superior” ratings. Great job Mustangs and Orchestra Director, Phil Mortensen!!
Smarter Balance - Don’t forget the test will be given to all of our 9th graders Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday. Lorri Walls has been hard at work with the Health/Career teachers and classes and our Language Arts teachers to prepare for the test. Stop by if you are interested in seeing our students take this new exam on the computers.
