Did You Hear? – YLHS counselors had their very first 2016-17 “Coffee with the Counselors” on Wednesday in the library. Over 50 parents had the opportunity to sit down with the counselors for an informal question and answer session and listen to a terrific presentation on “Trends in College Acceptances”, along with where YLHS students apply. This meeting is held on the third Wednesday of the month from 8:00 – 9:00 am in the library. One more way of “getting connected”. A Big Thank You to Lorri, Peyton, Nancy and JeNell!!

2016 Club Rush Week - had over 40 clubs out on campus during lunch trying to get students “connected”. Thank You Shea Runge and ASB for organizing the three day event and helping students fill out club applications. I also want to make sure and thank all the Club advisors!! Without you, we wouldn’t have all of these student opportunities.

Mustang University 2016-17 – “kicks” off its first parent/student program on Wednesday, September 28th at 6:30 in the Forum. The topic will be “Senior College Night”. Mustang University will have eight evening presentations over the year. A Big Thank You to our PTSA and Counseling Department for sponsoring these very informative parent nights.

Don’t forget to join our terrific PTSA!

October 1st – Yorba Days Community Faire & Car Show – at the Yorba Linda Community Center from 11-4. The PYLUSD Academies will showcase each high school’s programs, along with food and entertainment.

OC High School Students: Disneyland Resort is seeking influential high school students making a difference in Orange County to be recognized as the first class of “Dreamers & Doers” this fall. Whether focused on helping their families, classmates or community causes, Orange County high school students are asked to nominate themselves for their good deeds and service. From tutoring younger students, to leading a food drive, to starting a recycling program or helping with a sick or elderly family member, Dreamer & Doers applicants make a positive impact in their community. Beginning September 8 and continuing through November 20th, Orange County high school students can apply to become the first class of Dreamers & Doers, Disneyland Resort’s newly announced philanthropy program aimed at recognizing exemplary high school students who take action to improve their community, home or school by conserving nature, inspiring others to be creative or live healthfully, and bring hope and happiness to the community.

Every high school in Orange County will have the opportunity to select one – two of their school’s Dreamers & Doers applicants, who will receive two Disneyland Resort park-hopper tickets. From this group, 60 “Shining Stars” will be selected to receive a $2,000 grant for their school and be invited to attend a celebration luncheon where additional surprises will be announced, and six top-ranking students will be designated as Luminaries who receive a Disneyland Resort weekend prize package to enjoy with their families. Disneyland Resort also will host a symposium for all “Shining Stars,” by providing an opportunity to discuss issues that affect students and create solutions they can implement in their schools and communities.
