October is “Senior Checks” month. During the month of October, the counselors are meeting individually with each senior. During these meetings the counselors insure that students are on track to graduate, assist with the college application process and discuss relevant career and college planning. Parent and seniors are saying “thank you” for the extra time and guidance as they make plans for the next step after graduation.

Out of State College Fair – Thursday, 120 junior and senior students attended the Out of State College
Fair at the District Professional Development Office. 60 schools from as far away as Europe and as close as Nevada were represented. Students had the opportunity to explore schools outside of California, learn about discounted tuition from W.U.E. schools and connect with admissions officers. YLHS students were particularly drawn to schools like Grand Canyon University, UNLV, Washington State, Northern Arizona University and the Swiss Education Group Culinary School. A Special Thank You to JeNell Gandy for organizing the event.
All Staff “Family Fun/Movie Night” - Over 53 staff members with their kids had a pizza dinner in the sheltered lunch area and watched the movie “Zootopia” in the theater. It was very fun – the kids were having the time of their life running around the quad after eating. Thank You, Cathy Petz, for use of the popcorn machine, which was a hit with all the kids. Thank You – Jamie Jauch – for organizing this 1st Staff Family Fun Night. It sounds like it was enjoyed by all!! Watch out for our next event after the new year.
