Check Your Calendars - YLHS Performing Arts has the following performances scheduled for everyone to enjoy:
• YLHS Band and Guard will participate in the 43rd Annual District Band Pageant, Wednesday, November 7th @ Bradford Stadium at 7:00 p.m. Come out to see our Mustangs’ perform their street parade music and field show, along with a combined percussion solo from all four high school bands. The music, colorful uniforms and field show routines are second-to-none.
• Our YLHS Theater Department will perform their fall show “The Elephant Man” starting November 9 and continuing on November 10, 15, 16 & 17 at 7:00 p.m. and one afternoon performance Saturday, November 10th @ 2:00 p.m. Cathy Petz and our Theater Arts students always do an amazing job, so plan to attend one of these performance and see the talent of our students.
The PYLUSD High School Showcase Night - at the YL Community Center was held Thursday night. Our YLHS team – Richard Dinh, David Okamoto, Lorri Walls, Peyton Pike, Nancy Coutler, Brent Hendry, Rey Lejano, Jenni Messick, Samiya Hai, Jennifer Johnson (PTSA President) and Bincins Garcia with his Jazz Band presented all the great academics, co-curricular programs and activities students and parents can connect to during their four years as a Mustang. Over 700 students and parents attended the event to see what YLHS is all about as they get ready to register for their freshmen year in 2019. Highlights of the evening were YLHS Jazz Band performance and the academic data which included:
YLHS By the Numbers 2017-18
Graduation Rate 99% - 473 students
AP Exams 993 with 89% pass rate
331 Graduates met the A – G UC/CS requirements
96% of our graduates enrolled in the 2 or 4 year college
SAT scores average 1210 for YLHS and 1065 for the state of CA
All of these numbers are the highest in our district.
Three of our graduates sent us a 30 second selfies about their experiences as a Mustang and where they are attending college now. Jennifer Johnson talked about all the ways parents can get involved in their student’s high school experiences. Great evening! Thank you to everyone who attended and get ready for our future Mustangs!!
2019 National Merit Scholarship Program and College Board National Hispanic Recognition Scholars Program - YLHS students receiving recognition in the National Merit Scholarship Program are following: Lauren Bui, Amanda Chung, Aino Hakkinen*, Blake Han*, Wesley Ho, Kolya Isterabadi, Payton Janish, Noor Khan, James Salvador, Isaiah Seo*, Andrew Song* and Jenna Weitzman. Students with an asterisk after their name were named National Merit Finalists. And our students: Jessica Gutierrez, Jared Mesa, Melody Saba and Jordan Tatreau received National Hispanic Recognition. CONGRATULATIONS!!
