Holly Jolly Arts Week – was a great success with Theater and Choir performances, Visual Arts Showcase, Band and Color Guard, Orchestra Video, along with Dance Co. and Culinary showcase. A Big Thank You and congratulations to: Cathy Petz, Steve McCann, Brent Hendry, Kelly Fritz, Jeff Schumerth, Bincins Garcia, Phil Mortensen, Meshell Maes and Jenny Messick, along with ASB and all the students “connected” to our programs. A FUN WEEK!
We hope everyone has had the opportunity to see and take a “selfie” with the “Wings of YL Project”. Kelly Fritz and our Art Department brought this interactive street art angel wings project to remind all YLHS students and staff we are the “angels” of this earth. Everyone had the opportunity to decorate their feather to represent their individuality, as the wings took shape to provide a positive message about the human spirit on social media. Thank you Kelly, Brent, Jeff and everyone involved for the school-wide movement to embrace individuality and build a strong school community.
Did You Hear? - Over 200 students and parents attended our “Future Mustangs” AP and Honors Night presentation last Wednesday evening. Dr. Dinh opened the evening with a Power Point (now posted on our website) listing all the test scores and opportunities that make YLHS a great high school. Staff representatives from each department talked about Honors and AP classes and expectations needed for courses at YLHS. A Big Thank You to Dr. Dinh for organizing the night.
Department presentations:
Greg Walls – Science
Stacy Shube – Language Arts
Wes Peacock – Math
Rey Lejano – Social Science
Nereida Nunez – World Languages
Dan Eliot – Technology/Computer Science
Parents and students learned about our strong academic programs, along with getting connected to co-curricular programs. Student presenters: Lauren Bui and Wesley Dale talked about taking AP classes and participating in sports, leadership and clubs. Terrific evening – lots of energy – Thank You EVERYONE!
