OCDE honored our very own Lorri Walls, Counselor of the Year on
Wesnesday, February 13th at their board meeting. This award highlights the top professional counselors and their contributions to prsitive school climates and student success. Congrats Lorri and thank you for all you do for students, staff and parents.
The Yorba Linda High School Mustangs performed well at the
2018-19 Academic Decathlon tournaments. In Division two, juniors' Katelyn Birchfield and Jenee Anekwe led the way both earning a second place medal for the Honors Division (3.75-4.00) in math and speech. Senior AJ Song won three medals in Honors level, including a second place for speech. Senior Lauren Bui earned a fourth place medal in the Honors level for speech. Senior Courney Poon won two medals, including a 2nd place medal for math in the Scholastic Division (3.00-3.74) Senior Wesley Dale earned a 1st place medal for math and 2nd place for economics. Juniors Ryan Burgess won four medals including two 3rd place medals for math and economics in the in the varsity level and Brent Yun earned a 5th place medal for economics.
Congratulations to two our MBA Culinary students who competed in the Skills USA Restaurant Service competition. Cyra Donaldson placed first (Gold) and Kathryn Shepherd placed second (Silver). They had to demonstrate skills required in the “front of the house” of a fine restaurant. They are both eligible to advance to the Skills USA competition at the state level.
On Saturday, February 9th 2019, 33 YL Future Business Leaders of America members took part in the Southern Section Leadership Conference at Valencia High School. Students competed against hundreds of students in various events such as Introduction to Business, Public Speaking, Impromptu, Financial Math, Entrepreneurship, Global Business and more. All grade levels competed and we are very proud of our final results! Here is a list of students that placed in the top 10 in their events:

Last year we had placed 9th, so we are moving up! Finally, we have another member that had interviewed for a position in the Southern Section Board. YL FBLA is proud to have Ishaan Sakhrani as Leadership Associate for Southern Section Board, where he will have a vital role in the management of our Southern Section FBLA of over 30 chapters.
A Big Thank You to Yorba Linda PTSA Student Leadership - for Valentine Cupcake Day. Lot of cupcakes in the staff lounge for all of us to enjoy. Great Day to be a Mustang!
